What the label says:
A deep mahogany beer with rich toffee apples and roasted chocolate aromas. Chocolate and toffee give way to a fresh fruity aroma and rich red hues. Dried fruit flavours and a roasted taste blend to produce a balanced bitter sweet finish.
What the Beerdrinker says:
The beer is a pleasing mahogany colour as described and comes with a thick creamy head which soon disperses. It has a sour treacle nose with yeasty hints of brown bread.
The beer is smooth and creamy with a coffee taste and hints of chocolate. There are flavours of apple and treacle -suggesting the promised toffee apple. This is a very sweet beer.
Harper’s Brewing Company is an elusive brewery, with no website. Investigation reveals that this beer is brewed by Marstons specifically for Aldi. Quite why Marstons hides its brewery behind a fictional brewery is anybody’s guess.
